"One of their beliefs is "taking blood into body through mouth or veins violates God's laws", therefore when the young mother was struggling to fight for her life, the rest of the family and friends let her die slowly in the name of her religion."
In most (all) of the european countries those Jehovan people dispose of the "living will" ("advance directive"). The Jehovan patients I have had refuse a transfusion definitely.
It is their decision, like it is your own the decision to smoke or to drink alcohol or not. As far as they are adult and are conractually capable, you cannot do anything against such things.
The problem are the children. I think the government should take a firm stand in this case: it is allowed to handle against the will of the parents or we should let the children die!
This all isn't rational and emotion is surely not the solution. (sorry for my bad english)
The problem

Sad but it is not uncommon we see religion get in the way of common sense. I was wondering is JW a religion or a cult?

@Miund: I've been thinking a lot about your statement that faith is unquestionable.

In the end I have to disagree. Because I believe that if God intended us to follow one path only and never ask question about the road ahead us, he would have created robots instead. Or plants. Even plants' roots still have to choose where to crawl.

I believe God creates us, human being, with brain to think, so we could keep trying to make ourselves better. To reach the perfection. Or heaven, some say. To reach the perfection, we have to be ready to admit that what we've done in the past is wrong (Catholic church finally admitted that earth is round, not flat, after how many years?). To ban people to question what they believe is only a short way back to the dark age. Everything should be explainable. We might not know it today, but we must keep questioning until we find the answer someday.

Hi Anita,
I live in Indonesia, and I'm christian... Jehovah Witnesses are rejected by christians and catholics, but here in Indonesia, the government already accepted them as a religion. so they're free to practice their religion here. However, I heard that Singapore banned this kind of religion because they have some principles that against humanity.

Anita

I guess The Jehovah's have not made much progress in Indonesia but a distant cousin of their's the Adventists are fairly popular in North Jakarta and Menado.

I once met a Medical Doctor who also clained to be a Jehovah Witness which seemed very screwed up.

Also welcome to bonnie Scotland
